Museo Nazionale di Palazzo Reale

Il Palazzo Reale fu costruito nel 1583 da Bernardo Buontalenti per Francesco I de' Medici, ed andava a sostituire il palazzo Medici, adiacente alla chiesa e al convento di San Matteo. Il progetto non risparmiò alcune domus e torri medievali risalenti all'XI-XII secolo e in parte ancora visibili; la facciata è rivolta al Lungarno. Il Palazzo aveva ruolo di dimora reale e di corte, soprattutto in inverno e ne fu ospite, tra gli altri, Galileo Galilei. Passato poi ai Lorena, prese il nome di "Reale" quando divenne residenza dei Savoia, dai quali passò poi allo Stato Italiano. Oltre ad essere sede della Sovrintendenza, dal 1989 ospita il Museo Nazionale, che conserva numerose testimonianze delle famiglie che vi hanno abitato, costituite da dipinti (Raffaello, Rosso Fiorentino), ritratti, arredi, e le rarità di arazzi medicei e 900 pezzi di armature; inoltre si svolgono diverse mostre.

The Royal Palace was built in 1583 by Bernardo Buontalenti for Francesco I de ‘Medici, to replace the Medici palace, near the church and the convent of San Matteo. The project spared some domus and medieval towers dating 11th - 12th Century, still visible in part; the façade faced Lungarno. The Palace was a royal and his court residence, especially in winter and Galileo Galilei was a guests. Then the palace went to the Lorraine, it took the name of "Royal" when it became the residence of the Savoy, from which it went then to the Italian State. Here there is the office of Superintent, and also since 1989, it houses the National Museum, preserving many records of the family who lived there, such as paintings, portraits, furniture, rare tapestry, 900 pieces of armors; moreover, here there are a lot of expositions.
